The belly wrap — sometimes called the belly bag, bottom board, or underbelly — is the plastic/fabric sheet sealing the underside of your home. Once it tears — usually from animals, rodents, or a previous repair — it stops doing its job: keeping insulation dry, pests out, and cold air away from your plumbing and subfloor.
A damaged belly wrap left alone doesn't stay a small problem — moisture and pests that get in through a tear are one of the leading causes of subfloor rot, which is a much more expensive repair. Most jobs are a patch or a full section replacement using proper belly wrap material (not duct tape or a tarp), reattached and sealed correctly so it keeps doing its job for years.
Underbelly repair work varies a lot depending on how the home was originally set up. Some homes have insulation directly attached to the belly wrap material; others have it stapled separately to the floor joists above. We check which setup your home has before quoting, since replacing insulation that's soaked or compressed from a long-standing tear is often part of doing the repair right — not just patching the visible hole and leaving damaged insulation in place.
